Chávez Again Seeks to End Term Limits
In a surprise move, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announces that he intends to hold a second referendum on extending term limits, just a year after the voters have rejected it. In addition, he also strongly criticized his opponents who won mayoral posts in major Venezuelan cities during a recent regional election. The country is facing some rough times lately with high inflation and limitation of budged due to plunging oil prices, yet Chavez is confident that he should remain the leader until 2019 or 2021.
Even if he fails to pass this constitutional amendment though, he still has five more years to serve as president under the current conditions. But the polarizing and harsh talk he constantly uses against his opponents (as well as promising a military coup if he loses an election) are probably not doing much good for his country.
