Clinton Flying to Chicago to Join Obama

Tomorrow morning President-Elect Barack Obama will officially release his national security team. One member is Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Obama’s former primary rival. But, after Obama won the primaries, Clinton helped with Obama’s campaign by making speeches for him throughout the states. Clinton is flying to Chicago tonight to join her “close friend” Obama and to appear in the news conference tomorrow morning. According to this article, Clinton wanted to join Obama’s cabinet because she believes she can make more of an impact there instead of the Senate. Other members of Obama’s national security team include: present Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, Gen. James L. Jones as national security adviser, former Deputy Attorney General Eric H. Holder as attorney general, Gov. Janet Napolitano as security of homeland security, and of course Clinton as secretary of state. The unveiling of this list was pushed back due to the terrorist attacks in Mumbai that killed at least 180 people, 8 of whom were Americans. The article makes a point that all of these members are experienced, meaning they served in the either the Clinton or Bush administration. It says that it is more “centrist” than the Obama supporters were hoping for. Obama retaliated by saying he was trying to “combine experience with fresh thinking… [and] the vision for change comes[from him].” I think that this experience will both help and hurt Obama, keeping him from making big mistakes but also limiting him. I think we will still see some changes.
